February 20, 2008

Jennifer Odell '96On February 12, the Today Show featured Saint Anselm alumna Jennifer Odell ‘96 in an interview with weather and feature reporter, Al Roker.Odell, a senior biologist at the Georgia Aquarium, talked to Roker about African black-footed penguins. Odell also works with Beluga whales, California sea lions, and southern sea otters.

Odell began her work with penguins as a volunteer at Connecticut’s Mystic Aquarium and eventually was hired as an aquarist of marine mammals and birds.

She was featured in the winter 2004 issue of Portraits magazine: For Jennifer Odell, every day is an intimate encounter. Taking care of the aquarium’s 21 penguins, as well as its four harbor seals, five Steller sea lions, and nine northern fur seals, is her job. And it’s the job she’s always wanted…She now spends her day training animals, preparing their meals, monitoring the chemistry of their pools, and assisting with research projects.”
