Signs, Chants, and Supporters
January 6, 2008
To me, the biggest change to the campus came today. On the front lawn of Saint Anselm College a pen was set up to hold the supporters of the presidential candidates. I knew they were coming and as I walked down to set up the camera I thought I was well prepared.
A half hour later, I found myself in the middle of a crowd which was yelling and chanting and holding their signs like their life depended on it. The Repulican supporters were there first. Therefore I heard cheers such as “We like Mike” from the Huckabee supporters and “Freedom!” from the Ron Paul supporters.
Also in the mix were group that were supporting causes. A few people dressed as polar bears led the cheers for the crowd that wanted to end global warming. I heard, “What do we want? Heathcare!” from the voters focused on healthcare issues.
In time, the Hillary supporters started to march onto campus ready for their turn in the pen. As I watched these supporters walk in, I looked down Saint Anselm Drive. The traffic seemed to being going back to Route 114.
You have to admit, these people are very passionate about their beliefs. Either way the chants filled Saint Anselm College as we all got ready for the N.H. primary debates.
