Mark Sullivan '77 Discusses Rise to Top

The new head of the U.S. Secret Service launched his career as an Arlington boy and recent Saint Anselm grad who hoped to someday head the Boston field office. But when he joined the agency, they said, "Congratulations, you've got the job, and it's in Detroit,' " he told The Boston Globe in a recent interview.

Reading Anything Good?

Mica Stark, managing director of the New Hampshire Institute of Politics, gave his current reading list to Drew Cline, New Hampshire Union Leader editorial page editor, who posted it on his blog. Cline has posted the reading lists of other such notables as Attorney General Kelly Ayotte.

Stark helps lead the NHIOP’s Civic Leadership Academy, a civics education program for high school students. The program earned full stories in the New Hampshire Union Leader and The Portsmouth Herald. The 20 CLA participants saw government in action when they attended the Governor and Executive Council’s July meeting, which was held at the NHIOP and received extensive news coverage.

Writers’ Summer Odyssey

Jeanne Cavelos’ Odyssey Fantasy Writing Workshop, which the science fiction author and Saint Anselm College English lecturer runs on campus for six weeks every summer, received coverage by the Concord Monitor. Look for mover coverage upcoming in the New Hampshire Union Leader.

Presidential Candidates Plant Staffers in NH

Dante Scala, associate professor of politics, discussed the practice by likely presidential candidates of supplying state-level staffers for New Hampshire politicians. "You build up goodwill among the core activists within the party, but there's also no substitute for the knowledge you gain from having your people on the ground in New Hampshire and getting to know the faces and the towns and getting a feel for how the state works," he told the Associated Press. The story ran in the New Hampshire Union Leader and Concord Monitor.

'69 Alumni Win the Scholarship Golf Tourney

Members of the Class of 1969 were the winners of Saint Anselm College’s 16 Annual Scholarship Golf Tournament, which raised nearly $37,000 to help worthy students receive a Saint Anselm education.

The ’69 winning fivesome at the June event included Jack Cullity, president of Cullity Insurance Agency in Manchester, who last year won the President’s Award, the highest honor given annually by the college. His teammates were Peter Harrity, Matthew Sochalski, Jeffery Burke and Kevin Geaney.
