Campus Community Gathers for Inauguration Watch Party

January 20, 2009

The campus community converged onto Cushing today as students, faculty, and staff gathered together, Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2009 to watch President-Elect Barack Obama taking the historic oath to become the nation's 44th President of the United States.

The swearing-in and inaugural address by the nation's first black president elicited rounds of applause from the crowd and was followed by a facilitated discussion by NHIOP Political Director and Civic Education Manager Jennifer Donahue.

The ensuing discussion gave students and administrators the opportunity to comment and react to the President's address. One student thought it was interesting how President Obama categorized our nation as being a "patchwork heritage." Another student spoke about the address as inspirational and left her feeling hopeful in the nation's future.
