Brian Poznanski ‘11 Claims State Representative Seat

November 7, 2008

Politics major Brian Poznanksi ‘11, a Nashua Democrat, has won a seat in the New Hampshire State House. He will represent Nashua Wards 5, 8 and 9 (Hillsboro District 26).

Running his campaign on three main issues: education, the economy and the environment, Poznanski was elected with 5,285 votes, WMUR-TV reported.

Poznanski focused his campaign on what he calls the “three E’s” because he believes education to be the most important, an umbrella with other issues falling under it, “if you don’t have well educated youth then the future is dim…educated and intelligent youth make the economy stronger” he says.

“I joined this race because, although I am young, I feel that I can bring a different perspective to the table,” Poznanski wrote on his campaign page on Facebook.

Although Poznanski is a newcomer to electoral politics, his volunteer experience includes congressional, gubernatorial and presidential campaign work including time with Gov. Lynch’s first re-election campaign in 2006.

The politics major is also resident assistant in Dominic Hall, the vice president of his sophmore class, and involved in the college democrats on campus. He also worked for ABC News during the January 2008 debates.

Balancing his coursework and constituents will be hard work says Poznanski, “but being a state representative allows me to give back to the community while also learning how government works firsthand. So I’m really excited.”

Poznanski was one of four members of the Saint Anselm community to run for the Legislature this year. In close elections, two additional students and a faculty member lost closely contested races.
