John McCain Rallies Supporters at Saint Anselm College
October 22, 2008
A morning rally held in the Thomas F. Sullivan Arena on the campus of Saint Anselm College featured all key Republican candidates for the upcoming election, headlined by Senator John McCain. Before a crowd of students, faculty, staff, dignitaries, and the public, Senator McCain rallied supporters and undecided voters from a stage built atop the college hockey rink.
Complete with concert lighting, a booming soundtrack and thunderous cheers, McCain entered the arena and made his way to the stage. Featured prominently behind him: Saint Anselm's hockey teams, along with eight Saint Anselm students who had painted their chests with "M-A-V-E-R-I-C-K."
At the conclusion of his remarks, the Senator worked the rope lines around the podium, allowing several students to garner a handshake or even a personal photo. With the departure of McCain, the attention of the remaining guests, and the media quickly turned their attention to the bare-chested supporters.
"Enjoy your 15 minutes of fame, gentlemen!" remarked a campaign staffer following a request from CNN's Ed Henry for an interview with the group.
